Domigan has Final Say
The Tinwald Cycling Club travelled to Mt Somers to contest the Mt Somers Tavern, Darryl Phillips Motors Ltd, 45km mass start race on Sunday.
The event incorporates a sealed handicap component giving all riders an opportunity to be amongst the major prizes as well as line honours up for grabs.
An early break of nine riders got off the front before Jason Christie made a solo bid.
He was eventually chased down by an eight strong group in the latter stages of the race to set up a grand stand finish.
Craig Domigan fresh from competing in the recent Tour of Southland hit the line the strongest, recording a time of 65.16, to claim line honours. Nathan Tew continued his good form taking second place with Christie securing the final podium position.
Brad Hudson and Michael Templeton rounded out the top five.
The next group on the road saw the first two sealed handicap place getters. It was Marty Cuttle who finished the strongest to claim the trophy with Doug Lowry having his best race of the season securing second place. Lisa Goldsburg pulled out a top shelf ride to take third place with Nigel Leary in fourth.
The juniors and division 2 contested a 20km handicap race.
With a good field of riders making the most of the summer weather, Ryan Jackson seized his opportunity to claim victory with a strong sprint to the line to get up over second place getter Ethan Titheridge. Luke Skinner dug deep to take the third place spoils. Maddie Lowry and India Domigan filled the next two positions.
Bailey O'Donnell rode the course in 34.11 to take fastest time honours from Abe O'Donnell and Matt Clough.
Rachel Russell saw off the challengers to take division 2 honours with Tony Tarbotton in second place. Shona McGrath-Proctor secured third and fastest time.
Next week the Club will contest a 48km handicap event around the Grahams Road block.
