Audeau on the charge

Championship titles and ribbons were on the line when the NBS Ashburton, Tinwald Cycling Club Championships were raced over 64km around the Wakanui Beach block on Sunday.  Michael Audeau built on his busy season of racing to produce a stand out effort to see off his main challengers to take the victory and secure the overall championship title.  Audeau won the three up sprint to the line, recording a time of 91.23.Craig Domigan was rewarded for a super ride with second place and the veteran 2 title.  Third placegetter Kyle Gray secured vet 2 honours, to finish off a solid year of racing.  Cole Harris, Alex Hooper, and Gareth Lewis rounded out the top six.  Tony Ward continued his collection of Club titles, claiming vet 3 honours.  John Doherty turned the clock back producing a strong ride to take vet 4 honours.  Monique Brake backing up from a busy few weeks of track racing, found the line strongly to secure the women’s overall championship title, seeing of a strong challenge from Kyra Marett who lifted the first under 19 home ribbon and cup.  Hamish Scott continued his great early season form by taking the sealed handicap spoils.Juniors and division 2 Club titles were also up for grabs over the 16km distance.  Jack Gorrie timed his attack to perfection, jumping clear in the final few kilometres to lift the under 17 championship title.  Jack rode the course in 24.46.Louie Audeau continued the good day for the Audeau family with a strong second place.  Olivia Ewing secured third place and in doing so secured the girls under 17 title.  Kaidyn Broomhall will be happy with his effort, laying down a solid ride to take the boys under 15 honours.   Charlotte Stevenson is another who produced a strong ride to lift the girls under 15 ribbon.  Flynn Scott ensured his dad Hamish wasn’t the only one with bragging rights by taking the junior sealed handicap honours. Teressa Hooper topped of a good first half to the season by securing the division 2 trophy.  The Club will take a break over the festive season and start back racing on 5 January 2025 with a 36km handicap event around the Winchmore Church block.
