Team Lampe to the fore
It was the Team Lampe show on Sunday when father and daughter duo of Sam and Sophie took victory in Tinwald Cycling Clubs, LL Kirwan and Sons Ltd, AshburtonOnline handicap event around the Wakanui – Hakatere 7 rises course.
Sam Lampe took the bulls by the horns in the senior 48km event, making a solo bid for glory in the final 5km. It proved to be the decisive break staying clear by a slender 17 seconds from the chasing bunch that was cutting into his lead.
Richard Kirwan produced his best performance of the season leading the chasing group in with a strong sprint to take the second place spoils.
Jelle Hendrikson found himself on the podium for the second week running picking up third place.
John Doherty turned the clock back with a strong showing to take fourth place.
Roger Wilson and Craig Roulston filled out the top six positions.
Scratch marker Tony Ward rode the course in 65.00 to claim fastest time honours.
Co-markers Cole Harris and Gareth Lewis recorded second and third time.
The juniors and division 2 contested a 16km handicap event.
Sophie Lampe again showed her ability on the bike with a strong ride off the back mark to find the front and claim the victors spoils and in doing so secured fastest time honours, riding the distance in 30.28.
Jack Hooper also produced a top ride from the back to secure second place.
Flynn Scott put in an eye catching ride to take third place.
Robbie Lampe and Charlotte Stevenson rounded out the top five.
Stacey Hooper laid down a great performance to take division 2 honours from Teressa Hooper, and Kenny Johnston.
Next week the Club will travel to Methven to contest a 48km handicap event.
