Grijns goes two better

Good fields greeted the starting line in Tinwald Cycling Clubs, Advance Ashburton, Spray Marks, 48km handicap event around the Grahams Road block on Sunday.

Nick Grijns had a day to remember leading in a large bunch to claim the victory and  take home the major spoils.

Grijns and his co-markers pushed hard in the early stages to catch the group in front, then combined well to find the front of the race on the final lap.

Grijns made amends from last week close up third place by timing his charge to the line to perfection to secure the win.

Chris Gilbert who is the big improver in the early stages of the season stormed into second place.

Jelle Hendrikson showed he is working himself back into form with a solid third place.

Paul Brake was again in the thick of the finish securing fourth place.

Duncan Grant and Paul Summerfield rode strongly to fill out the top six positions.

Tour of Southland bound Kyle Gray secured fastest time honours, riding the course in a quick 61.28.

Co-markers Craig Domigan, and Michael Audeau recorded second and third time.

A great field of juniors contested a 16km handicap race.

Blake Broomhall made every post a winner with a great ride to take the chequered flag.

Robbie Lampe pushed him hard to the line to secure the second place spoils.

Emily Best produced a strong sprint finish to take the final podium position.

Thomas Stevenson was in the thick of the charge to the line to claim fourth place.

Cody Rollison and Flynn Scott rounded out the top six.

Scratch marker Sophie Lampe showed she will be one to watch with a super strong ride to take fastest time honours, riding the distance in 24.55.

Co-markers Eliza McKenzie and Jack Hooper took second and third time.

Alan Johns secured division 2 bragging rights from Liz Wylie, and Eamon Hooper.

Next week the Club will contest a 44km handicap event around the Wakanui 7 Rises course.
