Sutton on the charge

Don Sutton produced a perfectly timed sprint to take victory in Tinwald Cycling Club’s, John Cleary Memorial, 50km handicap event around the Rakaia block on Sunday.

Sutton and his co-markers kept up a solid tempo throughout, finding the front of the race on the second lap and ensured the chasing bunches were kept at bay.

In the charge to the line it was Sutton who pipped Ross Templeton in the shadow of the finish to secure the winners spoils.

Templeton produced his best race of the season to secure second place.

Jason Wilson was rewarded for a solid effort with the final podium position.

Roger Wilson was another to bring his A game storming into fourth.

Paul Brake and Andrew Shepherd rounded out the top six.

Jeff Best claimed fastest time honours, riding the course in 69.24.

Thomas Audeau and Cole Harris secured second and third time.

The juniors and division 2 contested a 18km handicap event.

Cooper Spillane made his first start for the season a winning one, sprinting clear of his co-marker in the finishing straight to secure a good win.

Oscar Gorrie backed up last weeks good ride with another strong effort to take second place.

Jack Hooper who was on the charge throughout the race didn’t quite get to the front but held on for a solid third place.

Jack Gorrie took fourth place and fastest time honours, riding the distance in 29.31.

Louie Audeau and Sophie Best round out the top five.

Graham McDougall reversed last week’s result getting the nod on the line from Brian Ellis.

Next week the Club will contest a 48km handicap event around the Wakanui Beach block.
