Summerfield wins in the wet

Wet weather greeted cyclist’s as the Tinwald Cycling Club contested the Canterbury Tree Topping, The Sausage Man event, over the reduced distance of 32km around the Wakanui Beach block on Sunday.

A strong bunch off the front mark worked well to keep the chasing groups at bay.

Paul Summerfield had the best of the finish, charging to the front in the shadow of the line to secure the victory.

Paul Brake produced his best race of the season to secure the second place spoils.

Mark Smitheram continued his good season form with a solid third place.

John Doherty was in the thick of the finish to record fourth place.

Richard Kirwan led in the chasing bunch to claim fifth place from co-marker Gary Weston.  

Cole Harris covered the distance in 44.51, to lift fastest time honours.

Sam Baltrop and Kyle Gray recorded second and third time.

The juniors raced over 16km.

Flynn Turnbull chased down the front to take a well deserved win and in doing so also took fastest time honours, riding the course in 31.36.

Carter Shepherd continued his sterling season with a tough effort in trying conditions to claim second place.

Next week the will contest the penultimate race of the season, a 60km handicap event around the Blackbridge block.
