Brookland takes first senior victory
Mitch Brookland scored his maidan win when he claimed victory in Tinwald Cycling Clubs, Hinds Seed Cleaning, 48km handicap event around the roads of Hinds on Sunday.
The race was wide open leading into the concluding stages with a bunch of in excess of 20 riders coming together.
Brookland had the best of the finish, kicking strongly to secure the victory.
Kristine Marriott showed her sprinting prowess to take the second place spoils.
Mike Pearce continued his strong showings to step onto the final podium position.
Dave Knight produced his best ride of the season to secure fourth place.
Monique Brake and Mike Hanson rounded out the top half dozen.
Recently crowned New Zealand under 23 time trial championship Logan Currie, secured fastest time honours, riding the distance in quick 64.01.
Co-markers Kyle Gray and Steve Hands recorded second and third fastest time.
The juniors and division 2 contested a 15km handicap race.
First starter Jack Gorrie had the best possible outcome, riding strongly to take the winners spoils.
Kaidyn Broomhall hung on bravely to secure second place.
Zac Brookland charged through the field to claim third place.
Cooper Spillane, Eliza McKenzie, and Charlotte Neal battled out the minors with Cooper edging out Eliza and Charlotte on the line.
Back marker Zoe Spillane recorded a time of 26.33 to lift fastest time honours.
Kenny Johnston claimed division 2 bragging rights with victory over Brian Ellis and Merv Grewar.
Next week the Club will contest a 60km handicap event around the Blackbridge block.
