Wilson makes it one form one
Ashley Wilson made the best possible start to his cycling season taking victory in Tinwald Cycling Club’s, Brad Hudson Flooring, Mathieson Chartered Accountants, 36km handicap event around the Wakanui-Haketere block on Sunday.
Wilson made a solo mid race break, riding strongly to find the front and held on to take the major spoils.
Co-marker Nig Chatterton chased bravely, holding out the fast charging group behind to secure second place.
Sam Barltrop backed up this previous week’s top effort, claiming the final podium position.
Montique Brake, Ben Knights, and Gareth Lewis continued their good early season form to round out the top six.
Scratch marker Steve Hands took fastest time honours, riding the distance in a quick 49.29.
Larry Neal and Kyle Gray secured second and third time.
The juniors and division 2 competed over 16km.
Honor Bradford rode strongly to get to the front of the race and maintain a gap to the chasing riders to secure the victory.
Thomas Stevenson laid down another top ride to take second place.
Back marker Isabella Inglis rode through the field to secure third place and in doing so recorded the fastest time, covering the course in 29.44.
Sarah Gould, Leah Reid, and Charlotte Neal filled the top half dozen.
A solid number of division 2 riders went to the line.
Nina Bradford made it a great day for the Bradford stable, claiming the win and fastest time honours.
Janette Hooper backed up last week’s win with a solid second place performance.
Kerry Clough was in the thick of the finish to secure third place.
Next week the Club will contest a 45km handicap event around the Dawson’s Road block.
