Nelson takes the win
Timaru paracyclist Jono Nelson made his trip north a memorable one, taking victory in Tinwald Cycling Clubs, Ashburton Contracting Limited, Small Business Accounting, 32km handicap event around the Wakanui Beach block on Sunday.
Starting off the front mark, Nelson set about his work to keep the chasing bunches at bay, holding on strongly to take the win by 45 seconds.
Sam Baltrop showed he will be one to watch, producing a topshelf ride to see him beat in a strong trio of riders to take the second place spoils.
Gareth Lewis continued his good form to secure the final podium spot.
Another new comer Ben Knights posted a great ride to take fourth place.
Charlotte Cox turned back the clock, producing a solid effort to record fifth place.
Mike Pearce laid down an eye catching effort, coming from the middle marks to take sixth place.
Kyle Gray showed he will take some beating this year, recorded the fastest time, riding the course in 43.59.
Larry Neal and Michael Templeton secured second and third time respectively.
The juniors and division 2 contested a 16km handicap event.
Isabella Inglis put her winter racing to good use to take the win and lift the major spoils.
Thomas Stevenson dug deep off the front mark to hold on strongly to secure second place.
Sarah Gould will be happy with her days work riding hard to nab third place. Zac Brookland and Daniel Gould rounded out the top five.
Scratch marker Mitch Brookland took fastest time honours, riding the distance in 23.32.
Janette Hooper had the final say in Division 2 to take the win and fastest time honours from Brian Ellis, and Merv Grewar.
Next week the Club will contest a 38km handicap event on the Wakanui – Hakatere course.
