Cycling Season Under Way
Tinwald Cycling Club kicked off their 2021/22 season contesting the
Dpi/EmbriodMe : Health 2000 graded scratch event around the Christys Road
block on Sunday.
Mixed weather conditions greeted the riders, with A and B grade competing
over 35km, and C and D grade having a blow out over 27km.
Steve Hands had the final say in A grade to take the winners spoils. Hands
rode the distance in 52.57.
Larry Neal and Kyle Gray put their off season training to good use claiming
second and third places respectively.
Maddo Taylor secured victory in B grade taking the win in a hard fought
charge to the line. Taylor covered the course in 58.58.
Mark Summerfield took second place with Chris Reid securing the final
podium position.
C grade honours were decided by the barest of margins with Mike Pearce
taking the win from Monique Brake, and Hugh Copland. Pearce recorded a
time of 46.33.
D grade was another hotly contested event with Kayla Smith claiming the
winner’s trophy, registering a time of 57.36.
Brad O’Brien took the second place spoils with Bridget Steed getting home
strongly to take third place.
The juniors and division 2 contested a weather shortened distance of 9km.
Ryan Gallagher started the season off in the best possible way, securing A
grade victory, riding the lap in 18.24.
Honor Bradford stormed into second place with Leah Reid close behind in
third.
B Grade honours went to Charlotte Neal who overcame an early mechanical
issue to take the win. Charlotte recorded a time of 23.08.
Tom Reid got the better of his big brother to take second place with James
Reid in third.
Kenny Johnston secured division 2 honours.
Next week the Club will contest a 32km handicap event around the Wakanui
Beach block.
