Williams all the way
Tinwald Cycling Club competitors took to the picturesque Terrace Downs – Lake Coleridge course on Sunday to contest the Jasma Farm, 45km handicap event.
Paul Williams excelled on the rolling course with a field-splitting climb mid race. Williams made a bold move in the second half of the race and soloed to the finish line to deservedly record a long-awaited victory.
Chris Reid will be pleased with his weekends efforts, taking the second place spoils.
Mark Smitheram produced another solid ride to secure the final podium position.
Richard Kirwan led in the chasing bunch to take fourth place, with Neil Wylie and Gary Weston rounding out the top six.
Christchurch visitor Scott McDonnell recorded the fastest time, covering the distance in 64.48.
Kyle Gray and Glen Gould recorded second and third time respectively.
The juniors and division 2 contested a 15km handicap event.
Daniel Gould pulled out a top shelf ride on the hilly country to take the win.
His little sister Sarah held on gamely to secure second place.
Ella Turnbull finished off the race strongly to claim the third place spoils.
Scratch marker Mitch Brookland secured fourth place and fastest time honours, riding the course in 26.09.
Penny Marriott and Zac Brookland filled out the top half dozen.
Janette Hooper had the final say in the charge to the line to claim division 2 honours. Brian Ellis was in second place with third place getter Kenny Johnston recording fastest time.
Next week the Club will contest a 48km handicap event around the Grahams Road block.
