Bancroft puts training to good use
Helen Bancroft reaped the rewards of a solid winter of training when claiming victory in Tinwald Cycling Club’s, Brad Hudson Flooring, Mathieson Chartered Accountants, 38km handicap event around the Wakanui – Hakatere course on Sunday.
Starting off the front mark Bancroft soon found a steady tempo and fought on bravely into a strong homeward bound headwind to keep the chasing bunches at bay.
Matt Donald showed he will be one to watch during the season leading in the chasing group to secure second place.
Sam Baltrop made his first hit out since his junior days of racing a memorable one taking the third place spoils.
Ross Templeton, Cole Harris, and Kyle Gray produced top rides to round out the top six.
Michael Templeton claimed back to back fastest time honours, riding the distance in 55.29.
Co-markers Steve Hands and Brad Hudson took second and third time respectively.
The juniors and Division 2 contested a 14km handicap race.
Sarah Gould went one better than the week before to lift the trophy and major spoils in the junior race.
Mitch Brookland fresh from the Yunca Tour, produced a great ride to take second place and in doing so claim fastest time honours, riding the distance in 24.54.
Jack Templeton showed a great kick to the line to step onto the final podium position.
Daniel Gould was hot on his tail in fourth place, with Tegan Marriott and Charlotte Neal next across the line.
Emma Hudson had the final say in the division 2 battle to take the win from Janette Hooper and Kenny Johnson.
Next week the Club will contest a 45km handicap event around the Dawsons Road block.
