WILSON SEES OFF CHALLENGERS
Roger Wilson produced his best race of the season to lift the Ineson Cup in Tinwald Cycling Club’s, Canterbury Tree Topping Ltd, 48km handicap event around the Wakanui Beach block on Sunday.
Wilson and his co-markers found the front of the race in the final 10km and held on strongly to keep the chasing groups at bay.
Leading into the finish any one of 9 riders were in the hunt to take the major spoils, but it was Wilson who produced the best finish to take victory.
Quentin Lawler showed good form to secure second place with Paul Williams continuing his consistent efforts picking up the final podium position.
Michelle Knight stormed into fourth place with Paul Summerfield and Tim Wilkinson rounding out the top six.
Matt Marshall, having his final hit out before taking on the Lake Taupo 160km bike challenge next weekend, secured fastest time honours riding the course in 73.54.
Co-markers Matt Clough and Paul Macfie claimed second and third time.
The juniors and division 2 contested a 16km handicap event.
Scratch rider Maddi Lowry produced a top ride to take victory and in doing so also picked up fastest time honours riding the distance in 31.09.
Jack Templeton dug deep to take second place and time, with Lily Davidson claiming the third place spoils.
Harriett Sutton showed good form in winning and taking fastest time honours in division 2, seeing off the challenges of Hillary Singlewood, Connie Davidson, and Lucy Clough.
Next week the Club travels to Mt Somers to contest a 45km mass start event.
