TEMPLETON TO THE FORE
Michael Templeton’s stellar season continued on Sunday, taking victory and fastest time honours in Tinwald Cycling Club’s 50km handicap event at Rakaia.
With the field having to contend with a gutsy nor west wind on the outward leg to Highbank, scratchman Templeton and his co-markers cut into the lead of the front bunches finding the front of the race inside the final 10km on the fast homeward leg.
In the kick to the line Templeton was too strong securing the win and lifting the John Cleary Memorial and Les Lisle Cups.
Christchurch visitor Brent Spencer charged into second place with Tony Ward claiming the final podium position.
Brad Hudson, Nathan Tew, and Rob Hooper rounded out the top six.
Templeton covered the distance in 79.32.
The juniors contested an 18km handicap event.
Hayden Jefferson proved too strong for his co-markers riding off the front on the way home to secure a good win, lifting the Butcher Cup and taking the fastest time spoils.
Caitlin Titheridge continues to impress with a solid second place, seeing off the challenge of her brother Ethan in the charge to the line.
Brian Ellis battled the elements to take the division 2 honours.
Next week the Club will contest a graded scratch around the Wakanui Beach block.
