Close Racing Order of the Day
A large field of riders competed in Tinwald Cycling Clubs, LL Kirwan and Sons Ltd : AshburtonOnline, graded scratch event around the Blackbridge block on Sunday.
“A” and “B” battled over a 60km course with plenty of attacks and chases to ensure an exciting finish in both grades.
Michael Templeton had the final say in “A” grade, sprinting clear in the final stages to secure the victory, covering the distance in 83.33.
Tony Ward, who had been busy throughout the race took the second place spoils, with Bailey O’Donnell hot on his tail in third place.
“B” grade was also decided on the line with Matt Marshall drawing on all his experience to kick clear of the bunch in the closing stages to take the win, riding the course in 87.43
Glen Marshall finished strongly to secure second place, with Kristine Marriott producing one of her trade mark finishes to step onto the final podium spot.
After 40km of racing only the width of a tyre separated the place getters in “C” grade.
Jamie Smitheram made the most of his first start of the season seeing off the fast finishing Don Sutton to take the winner’s spoils.
Don Morrison showed he is coming into some good form with a strong finish to claim third place.
The juniors and division 2 contested a 20km handicap event.
Emma Begg dug deep in the testing windy conditions to hold out all the chasers at bay and claim the win.
Ethan Titheridge showed his strength to take second place, with Oliver Davidson producing an eye catching ride to take third.
Scratch marker Abe O’Donnell secured fastest time honours riding the course in 30.37.
Beth Begg took division 2 honours with Les Brown close behind in second.
Next week the Club travels to Methven to contest a 45km handicap event.
