Hudson takes Mt Somers Classic
The Tinwald Cycling Club travelled to Mt Somers on Sunday to contest the Jims Test and Tag, 45km mass start event on the picturesque course through to Hakatere Station and back.
Brad Hudson proved to be the strongest in the charge to line in the lead 8 man breakaway to secure fastest time honours riding the course in 66.57.
Timaru visitor Hamish McDonald was right in the hunt taking the second place spoils from the evergreen Tony Ward.
Michael Templeton was in the thick of the finish with Sam Letham and Steve Hands rounding out the top six.
Special mention of junior rider Bailey O’Donnell’s solid effort in finishing with the lead group.
Back in the field there was plenty up for grabs with sealed handicap honours on the line.
Don Morrison worked hard to find himself well forward in the marks and held on gamely to secure the sealed handicap honours.
Drew Titheridge showed his recent training programme is working with a well deserved second place.
Doreen Lembke made a strong showing in claiming third place with Dave Sullivan, Kathy Hogarth and Kristine Marriott filling the first half dozen places.
The juniors and division 2 competed over 20km.
Abe O’Donnell kicked away at the finish to take victory with Caitlin Titheridge showing plenty of fight securing the second place spoils.
Ryan Jackson, who continues to ride strongly, secured third place with Bella Roulston, Oliver Davidson, and Ethan Titheridge right on his tail.
Dylan Leech produced a great ride to take sealed handicap honours from Daniel Marshall who dug deep to secure second place. Ryan Jackson took third from Bella Roulston and Oliver Davidson.
Janette Hooper had the better of her division 2 co-marker Andy Skinner in the charge to the line to take the win.
Next week the Club will contest a 48km handicap event around the Grahams Road block.
